Soul-Care’s Online Ministry
Years ago I would’ve said, “online community/ministry” was an oxymoron. The gift of physical presence is paramount in the Christian journey. But, in the wake of COVID19, we’re seeing how gifted we are to have technology that allows for communication, connection, and creativity. These lines of communication not only helped world leaders to anticipate this virus and take major steps of prevention, but it’s allowed billions of people to meaningfully engage in ways no other generation has previously experienced.
Take, for example, the massive viral outflow of creative (meaningful and hilarious) images, videos, lip-syncs, etc. that serve to encourage and uplift in the middle of a world pandemic. When viewing some, I’ve laughed out loud, with others, tears have welled up in my eyes. The atmosphere, not only full of potential pathogens, is also full of humanity. Human expression, emotion, and potential connection are heightened. With it arrives the mess and the beauty that make life worth living.
With all the fear in the air, it’s a surprise how much good is still going on.
We’re seeing a massive shift in collective human experience. And with that, what is inside the soul is being exposed like never before. For some, that is terrifying, fear, anxiety, uncertainty are poignant and cutting. For others, it is consoling, refining, shifting, and even exciting. No matter where we are, or who we are or aren’t with—our “soul-stuff” is surfacing.
And not just individually, it’s happening, in homes, in cities, in regions, in countries. The content of the soul, the corrupt and wonderful, is beckoning. How do we walk through this new experience of reality? How are you responding?
The ancient King-poet, David, penned a lyric speaking to his soul:
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And all that is within me, bless His holy name.
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget none of His benefits;
Who pardons all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases;
Who redeems your life from the pit,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion;
Who satisfies your years with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle.
Sometimes the content of our souls needs to be recalibrated, especially when it’s feasting on uncertainty headlines. What lines in the passage above stand out to you? What is your heart’s longing as you read these words? What is the state of your soul today?
One might think this is the strangest time to launch our online platform, but in our conversations with clients, and in our own stories, we’re seeing this season is ripe with meaning. So, journey with us! And without further ado Soul-Care online!
